Jan with Iguana “Pete”

Janet H Elmore has been engaged in one art form or another all her life. She grew up doing pencil drawings and oil painting with her mother – capturing the rural landscapes of the California and Oregon while her family moved from location to location following the work of her father, a foreman in the Pacific Northwest wood mill business.

In the late 1970’s she starting working at a business called Capri Arts and Crafts where they taught classes and she quickly became an expert in Tole painting. She spent many hours creating furniture, wall hangings and delicate boxes and keepsakes similar to the Tole Painting Masters of France, Britain, Russia and Japan. She was asked to teach this art herself and did.

When she moved to Bodega Bay she still appreciated the art of Tole Painting and still practiced it, but began to experiment with Watercolor with Susan Cornelis in 2003 and has not looked back since. In the last 14 years Jan has been creating the beautiful, watercolor art you see here. Browse through all the paintings because she has a variety of styles and subjects. You will definitely find one that you love. She also likes to travel with her husband to Mexico where she has been known to pose for a picture with an iguana.
